Last year was really a tough year for me...ooops don't get me wrong ...tough ...because it was that year that I decided to go downshifting.
Downshifting (vi.) 1. to change voluntarily to a less demanding work schedule in order to enjoy life more. 2. to shift a vehicle into a lower gear.
So, there you go downshifting from Webster's perspective. :) Downshifting for me is a whole lot about change. I always believe that change is always necessary for us to keep on improving. When I decided to go downshifting from my work last year. I really did a lot of thinking and talk about it with some family and friends. Reading self help books also help. So, when I finally sure about it, I completed my plan, planning ahead is essential, for me it took me like 8 months to prepare for everything. Curious about what to prepare?:) yourself, have a mindset that you'll be living a different kind of lifestyle that you used to have. Settle your finances. Make sure that you talk about this with your family and close friends, it helps...of course pray and ask God's wisdom.
But, the question is how's my downshifting so far...it's been like 6 months now. What do I gain from downshifting? So, far I can say I'm surviving...even far away from family and friends but they've been very supportive that helps me get through this. I become more appreciative of the things I had before and how I was blessed. I also discover some things that I hate doing before that I learned to love doing now. It helps me also to get to know more myself better. Another thing is it helps you to be more patient and humble.
Though, right now I'm still in the process of transitioning but I can say that my downshifting helps me get to know more myself and the things I want to do and I can do. It makes my life more exciting and always looking forward into something. Generally downshifting gives me a new perspective about everything. So, don't be afraid to change gear, but be ready to take the challenge for you to appreciate its potential gain.
