Tayo na at Maglaro (Common and let’s play)!

Sounds familiar? Yes, this is the song used for the Pancit Canton commercial. The first time I saw this commercial I was like ….”I wonder how many kids still knows how to play those games?” and really I love to watch this commercial, not just it brings me to my childhood memories but it also remind the viewers especially the parents and kids that are watching how fun to play those games. Call me traditionalist or conservative, but playing those games is one of my unforgettable experiences in my childhood.

The taguan (hide and seek), sipa (game of kick), luksong tinik (jump over thorns), piko (halfscotch) and many more “Traditional Filipino Games” are just one of the ingenuity of the Filipino, and they’re not expensive like before we use broken pots as token for piko, we use old card board for our paper dolls and just plainly we use ourselves for playing the games without needing anything. These are the games that we enjoy before.

How about the kids of today’s generation? Well, they're now more expose to high tech toys like Play station, Nintendo, Xbox, SPORE, PC or Computer Games, Tamagotchi, Barbie dolls and Remote control cars. Which I believe parents and adults are also into these games. :)

I just hope that despite of all these high tech toys, kids would still appreciate and enjoy those Filipino Traditional Games and will still have the chance to play those. So, common let’s sing Tayo na, tayo na …laro laro laro tayo!….:) I also like the beat of this song. :)

Busy days...means busyness or business?!

Let's see if my busyness is equal to business. Whatever it takes, busy for me is something to be thankful. :) Wondering why? ... if we have something to do, that means we're not idle or lazy. An opportunity for us to keep moving. But for some busy for them is just an excuse to something, like not calling a loved one, friend or a missed occasion. :) Let me recall how's my "busyness" for the past weeks. Had a great time in Ohio, what a long drive!, long drive is sometimes great if you're just the passenger lol! You have time to look around, think while napping ( how's is it possible? lol) well, it's possible for me...it's just like day dreaming! :). A time to appreciate the quietness of the green surroundings that we passed by and just merely a get away. My online course in Open Education is almost over. Collaborating with people around the globe with same interest is amazing. Exploring the many possibilities of this new learning culture. Defi...

A crave for Tsokolate eh ...!

The other day I was craving for a hot chocolate...well maybe because of the cold weather. But I was craving for not just a hot chocolate. I want something that I used to have back in the Philippines...we call it Tsokolate eh ... wait how are you going to pronounce it ...it should be like this cho-koh-la-teh-eh!...i put the exclamation so you have an accent on the eh!...:) It's a Filipino thick hot chocolate, very similar to the signature hot chocolate of Starbucks. But of course it's way cheaper than a Starbucks hot chocolate. :) Tsokolate eh! is made up of tabrilya (tab-rillia)it's a cacao balls. But it's basically from a cacao fruit. It comes in different shapes but rounded tabrilya is the most common. :) There's a traditional way of doing this ...like before they use a beater for this called "batidor", but I don't use that anymore I just let it boil and use a regular spoon to beat it.:) Simplier but of course it taste better if it's done the...

"Philippine Hospitality" is on TWB(Teacherswithoutborders)

Philippine Hospitality is one of the characteristic that stands out among Filipinos. This is a common trait that Filipinos are known for, especially to most foreigners who have traveled around the country. They will even go out of their way to ensure guest feels comfortable. I remember my mom would have a set of towels, blankets and other stuff prepared and reserved for visitors, given that we don't have much of those for us to use. But it is a primary and mandatory custom. Although we are not the only people in the world who can be friendly and welcoming, but this characteristic is exceptional among us. Actually, there's no country in Southeast Asia where foreigners are so well welcomed as in the Philippines . I know, Thailand , Japan or China are also hospitable, but remain distant. Compare to the Filipino hospitality where in our smile is not politely distant, it is spontaneous and from the heart. What really makes "Philippine Hospitality" exceptional? Here ...
